Chroma key

How hard is to remove background from one footage? Yes, yes.. It’s really easy if you do it for (one) picture. A little bit of magic-wand in photoshop and that’s it! But what about video? You have 25 frames per second! That’s a lot of magic-wanding. If you do it that way, it’s called rotoscoping (therm used also for drawing over video). Other way is to record video in front of specially colored background (blue or green) and then in post production (premiere, after effects, etc.) you can remove background with not-so-much-pain.

I added a little bit of masking to give depth to video, and more realistic look.

Here is my example of composing one such short.

Chocolate and alien

Other name for video is motion picture, right? So video can be picture that moves. There is whole type of animation called cutout animation. Pictures were drawn by hand and then cut. If you take photo of different pictures and then play all together, it will make a illusion of movement. Stop-motion animation is wider therm which includes cutout animation and other types (like claymotion), all based on this principle. Take photo, move, take photo, move, etc.

“The sweetest part is for you”

Sometimes pictures can be used as video, especially if they are used as a background. Video is, in the best case, 1920×1080 (full HD) and pictures can be much, much larger. You can use part of the picture for background of something and then moving picture will make a illusion of moving the camera. Just place some object there and there is some kind of video.

“Alien”

Find your way to express yourself through animation, it will be a lot of fun!

Flawless

There are two main opinions when computer graphic is in question. Ones are for bitmap graphic, others are for vector graphic. Both are good and bad in something. I choose vector most of the time, and here I will give you a reason for choosing it.

Bezier curve is flawless

Anyway, that’s my opinion. Hey, I just thought of something! How about a little competition? What do you think? Which one is better? Tell me here or tell me on Facebook and Twitter.

Text mixing

December 14, 2010 2 comments

One of the nice tricks in design is mixing letters. Letters can be used for graphic elements as well as for written words. Sometime letters can tell you different story depending on your angle of perception. Sometimes it’s literary like that. For example, if you type N and then rotate it for 90 degrees, you get letter Z. For me, playing with letters is a hell lot of fun! I can do it for hours, and still don’t get bored.

Z = N

Let’s play! You give me word or few words, maybe even sentence, and I’ll mix it up.

If you already have some works of that kind, feel free to post it.

airplane session

Final work

During the summer my colleagues and I decided to have some sessions. One of us is good at 3d modeling, other at photography, and me… I’m not so bad at drawing. Here is one of few drawings from this summer drawing sessions. Theme was, obviously, airplane.

A couple of weeks ago, I made this beat for jamming session. Idea was to create rap song in one day, but that still stays as idea. Hopefully, some time soon, track will be finished. Until then, enjoy this beat.
